The secret about highly creative people
January 16, 2026
A direct line from my art table to your inbox—where creativity, connection, and a little chaos collide.
Lately I've been thinking a lot about what it means to show up for ourselves and our creativity.
So often we feel like if we can’t show up “perfectly,” it’s better not to show up at all. I’ll be the first to admit that I default to all-or-nothing thinking. But from personal experience, I know how detrimental this can be.
When we wait for things to be perfect, we end up waiting forever. Life passes us by.

Reframing this belief can be difficult, but it is life changing. Gentle reframes you might like to try →
I will create when I have a dedicated art space — becomes — I will find space to be creative, even if it’s just my lap.
I will create when I have an entire free day — becomes — I will find pockets of time to create.
I will create once I have a unique artistic style — becomes — I realize the more I create the closer I am to finding my style.
I encourage (dare I say challenge) you to show up for yourself and your creativity. Show up messy. Show up imperfectly. Show up without a plan. Just show up.
- 5 minutes spent spilling your thoughts on paper — counts.
- Mark making on a notepad during your lunch break — counts.
- Gluing three scraps onto a piece of paper — counts.
- Taking a walk around the block and snapping photos of the patterns you find — counts.
The more you can show up for your creativity in small ways, the easier it becomes. Small actions build momentum. And the more you do this, the more confidence you will have in yourself.

Want to know a secret about highly creative people? Start noticing all the ways you are already being creative and give yourself credit. Don’t diminish your efforts. Claim it with confidence.
Part of becoming more creative is realizing how creative you already are.
