Consistency ≠ Pressure

December 19, 2025

A direct line from my art table to your inbox—where creativity, connection, and a little chaos collide.

Often when we think about consistency we tense up. Like a bucket full of expectations just landed on our shoulders. We see it as something serious — no breaks, go go go, always “on”.

There’s no one golden standard on what consistency looks like. You may have an image that comes to mind - but that doesn’t mean it’s set in stone. Often it’s a narrative that has been fed to you, rather than something that you have helped shape.

Consistency has been one of my words for 2025, and it’s been so good for me to help reframe my thinking. Here’s some of the things I’ve learned about consistency this year, maybe they can help you, too.

Consistency is ...

→ Taking intentional breaks

Choosing to pause before your body forces you to.
Stepping away on purpose so you can come back regulated.

Adjusting your pace

Slower still counts. Softer still counts.
Showing up doesn’t look the same from day to day.

→ Focusing on wins more than losses

Giving yourself credit for what you’ve done. Don’t minimize your effort.

→ Leaving comparison behind

Your consistency will look different than the person next to you, tailor it to your body and needs.
True consistency is personal, not for show.

→ Listening to your body

When your body says “not today” - listen. Honoring that makes tomorrow possible.
Trust the long game.

→ Being honest with yourself

Every season looks different, be realistic with your goals.
Consistency that ignores real life isn’t consistency, it’s pressure.

→ Protecting your energy, not just managing your time

Consistency comes from sustainability, not squeezing more into the calendar.
Choosing steady over urgent. Depth over speed.

→ Recommitting when you get off track

Gentle realignment, not white-knuckled discipline.

→ Switching things up

Consistency doesn’t mean repeating the same thing forever. It means staying engaged by evolving.

Consistency can be something you live inside of, not something you force yourself through.

Have you been thinking about picking a word of the year for 2026? I have my morning journaling practice to thank for being able to pick mine so easily.

If you want to pick a word and set some intentions for 2026, I encourage you to dedicate a little bit of time each morning to journal. No stress, this isn’t to show anyone else. It’s a safe space to dump everything out from your brain.

The biggest thing for me to learn when I started consistently journaling was there is no right or wrong way.

When the new year hits, I’m positive that you’ll be able to pick out some recurring themes that will help guide you in picking a word.
