Simple Layering Techniques For Your Art Journal
How to Create Depth & Dimension
In my latest journal spread, I started with bold background marks to get past that intimidating blank page. Layers are so essential! The key to layers is to have the willingness to cover up what you’ve already put on the page. Which can be scary! But the payoff is so worth it - all of the stacked yummy layers add dimension and depth!
Working in a sketchbook can be so freeing. The great part is that when you are finished, you can close the book and put it back on the shelf. It doesn’t have the pressure of creating a piece of art for the wall, such as a canvas. The ability to close the book and move on feels very liberating!
I love working in journals and have multiple going at any given time. What’s your favorite kind of journal or sketchbook to work in? Do you prefer a handmade journal or one with all plain white pages?
