How to Transform Your Notebook
Black and White DIY Altered Journal Cover Tutorial
When I started this series of taking boring, plain notebooks and altering the covers I knew I had to have at least one feature black and white! The use of bold neutrals is such a staple in my work. I think black and white has the ability to make any color scheme look dynamic.
I used white and black gesso for this cover, playing around with layering and mixing the colors directly on the notebook cover. I also incorporated a few collage pieces to add a bit more interest.
One question that came up in my previous tutorial was whether it's necessary to disassemble the notebook. While taking out the pages makes the process easier and cleaner, you could opt to leave the notebook intact by protecting the pages with parchment or deli paper. Either way works, so it just depends on what you're comfortable with!
Check out my previous tutorial for a closer look at the notebook deconstruction process.
For added texture and interest I decided to handstitch around the edges! This took a bit longer than I originally thought it would, but I think the extra effort was worth it!
Have you given new life to any of your boring notebooks? Let me know in the comments!
xx Brooke
