Spooky StencilGirl Collab - Hallo(DEX)ween
Take a closer look at my project for Halloween!
I was asked by the lovely Tina Walker to participate in her newest collaboration with StencilGirl. I loved taking the time to create something special for Halloween this year. October has always been my favorite month out of the year. Although, I can’t say I’ve given Halloween too much thought since I was a kid and I was deciding what I wanted to dress up as. This collab was the perfect reason to dedicate some time to this spooktacular holiday!
I knew that through this whole project, I wanted to stay true to myself and my own style. Often when I create, I don’t use multiple colors at a time. I usually keep in the monochromatic or analogous color scheme. When I usually think of Halloween, I think orange, purple, and green. I thought that I would get lost in the process if I combined all of those traditional colors. This led me to keeping to a very limited color palette: black & white! My thoughts went to the beginning of The Wizard of Oz before the scenes go to full color. What is more creepy than the wicked witch riding her bike through the tornado! I wanted this project to be high contrast and high drama. I love how this RoloDEX turned out!
Here’s one of my big takeaways from this project: when the subject matter or theme is something that doesn’t automatically give you big ideas - try to think about it in a different way. How can you stay true to your style while stretching your thought process at the same time?
