I’m diving into a creative adventure, playing with fabric and sewing machines in my latest art journal spread. The last prompt for the Ugly Art Club's 5-minute challenge for today is “Are you listening?” and it’s been such a joy. Especially because I was able to incorporate fabric and my trusty sewing machine into the spread today!

I'll walk you through my process, from adding textured backgrounds and playful scribbles to sewing down fabric strips to form an intriguing word art. I'm adding in some white gesso. I gessoed behind it a little bit and also on top, just so that everything plays really beautifully together. I lightly glued it down so that it stays in place, and now I'm going to sew it down so that it’s more secure, but also aesthetically, I just like the way that the stitching looks.
