Typewriter Creations & Blackout Poetry for 5 Minute Challenge - "Censored" Prompt
5 Minute Art Challenge - Day 5 - Prompt: Censored
hosted by: The Ugly Art Club
Day 5 of the Ugly Art Club's 5-minute challenge brought an interesting prompt – "censored." I decided to take a different approach by breaking out my typewriter. There's just something so satisfying about the clicky-clacky sound as I type away. I prepped ahead of time by doing some journaling on the prompt, letting my thoughts flow and taking inspiration from a book I recently read - Atlas Shrugged by Ayn Rand. I love to think of text and words and letters being used as a pattern, not just saying something. I think that's a really fun way to include it in our artwork.

During the challenge, I blacked out some words with translucent black paint, creating a representation of the word "censored." As I worked on the spread, I also played with fabric, textures, and red ink to make the prompt stand out. Sometimes when it comes to layering like this and adding on bits, you just have to keep playing around and tweaking the placement, a little bit by little bit until you're happy with it.
Fun Fact: Did you know that the red ink ribbon on the typewriter played a key role in adding a bold pop of color to the spread? It's all about those little details that make the art come alive!
