5 Minute Art Challenge - Day 6 - Prompt: Hotel Carpet

If I'm being honest, I wasn't immediately feeling inspired by Day 6 of the Ugly Art Club’s 5-minute challenge… hotel carpet?! But I've learned that sometimes the best ideas come when you push past the initial resistance. Drawing on my experience working in hotels, I thought about the duller, repetitive patterns and the colors chosen to hide dirt. I focused on blending nickel azo yellow, raw umber, and titan buff colors using a sponge, as well as adding fabric for texture. Incorporating a stencil helped me achieve that repetitive carpet pattern feel.

As I worked through this challenge, I also shared some insights and tips, like threading needles in advance to make the creative process smoother when you’re working in a time frame. I love being able to take it day by day, prompt by prompt, because it allows you to really think about each one individually and create intuitively.
