All paint, no collage - Black & Blue Grid Journal

Exploring a Moody Color Palette in My Grid Journal

Grid journal, tutorial, postcard stencil, paint and no collage, color palette, experimentation, composition, batch create, negative space, bold lines, art marks, freehand, acrylic ink.

In this video tutorial, I switched things up by using all paint and no collage, which is a bit different from my usual approach. Starting with bold black gesso and then adding in layers of blues and a touch of neon yellow really gave this spread a moody vibe, and I had a blast experimenting with this new technique. I also played around with taking away some paint with a wooden skewer kebab stick to create intriguing texture and depth within the grids. It was definitely a fun challenge to work in bigger sections compared to my usual style, and it got me thinking about practicing compositions for larger-scale projects in the future.

Working on this spread reminded me of the importance of mixing things up and trying new approaches. I always aim for each block of the grid to stand out on its own while still feeling cohesive with the entire spread, and I find so much joy in finding that balance. This spread may be simple, but it's a great starting point that leaves room for adding art marks or collage elements in the future. I encourage you to challenge yourself and experiment with different techniques in your own creative projects. Keep playing! Talk soon.
