Creating Circle Embellishments with Digital Downloads
A Step-by-Step Mixed Media Guide
One of my favorite newsletters that I send to my email subscribers each month is the one containing my monthly free digital download! It’s so fun to share a piece of my art that you can use in your own art journaling. This month I decided to do something a bit different - I created a page full of circles created from several different pieces of artwork.
Boundless creativity can spring from these little shapes. Whether you are punching them out or cutting by hand, they are so versatile. To bring these cuties to life, I like to add my own personal touch to them. It’s amazing how a digital print can transform from flat to fabulously textured just by layering on some additional art marks, paint, or collage!
In my latest tutorial, I show you how I embellish these circles. From taking cues from the marks already in place to adding marks and patterns that enhance the piece in a new way - I thoroughly enjoy this process. It feels like each piece I touch springs to life under my tools, blending the original design with my own burst of creativity.
*TIP* sometimes it's best to handle the entire page instead of cutting out the shapes right away. This way, you can make sure your enhancements flow across the circle boundaries, giving a cohesive feel before you even snip them out.
Once the circles are cut out, I add extra details. This could be additional art marks or paint. Or finding ways to add texture and dimension through fabric and stitching. Using these in my art journals is just delightful, I love having a stash on hand ready to go that I can pull from!
Remember, it’s all about experimenting and seeing where your creativity leads you! So, grab that freebie and see what incredible designs you can come up with.
xx Brooke
