5 steps to start believing that YOU are an artist (and claim the title)

If you've ever hesitated to call yourself an artist — this is for you.

Yes, you. Because the only difference between an artist and someone who wishes they were one? The willingness to claim the title.

For most of my life, I didn't call myself an artist. Creative — sure. Artist — absolutely not. That title was for the "real" artists. You know the image that pops into your head. For me, it was someone who could draw realistically.

I still stand in awe of that skill. But I no longer believe the title belongs only to them.

About five years ago, I started calling myself an artist — and actually believing it. It felt like a weight lifting. I finally had permission to be me. The power in that? Everything.

I stopped waiting to be given the title, because here's the truth: you will never feel it until you believe it first.

It's time to coronate yourself. Artist.

So how do you actually get there?

Here are 5 steps to start believing it — and claiming it for good.

1. Think it.
Say "I am an artist" in your head. No justifying. No explaining. No buts.
This is where the transformation begins.

2. Whisper it.
Out loud, just to yourself. Yes, you'll feel silly. That's fine — this isn't for anyone else yet.
The transformation is starting to take shape.

3. Write it down.
Journal it. List every reason you ARE, in fact, an artist.
The transformation starts to feel tangible.

4. Tell someone.
Not for approval — this isn't up for debate. You're sharing a piece of yourself, and that's vulnerable. Choose your person wisely, or tell a stranger and watch what happens. Notice the intrusive thoughts. Notice them, and keep going anyway.
The transformation is yours to embody.

5. Embrace it. Fully.
You are an artist. Full stop. No one can take this from you.

Repeat steps 1–4 as many times as you need to feel step 5. Come back to this list any time you start to question yourself.

You don't need permission. You don't need a gallery, a degree, or someone else's nod of approval.

You just need to decide.

Welcome to the title, artist. It was always yours.
