Actually prioritizing creativity
August, 28, 2026
A direct line from my art table to your inbox—where creativity, connection, and a little chaos collide.
Last night I realized something about my creative practice...
Over the last week I have been leaving time for creativity, but I wasn't prioritizing it. The time I was allowing myself to be hands-on creative was the leftover time. The remnants. Reserved for when all the tasks were checked off the list.
And I know this won't come as a shock to anyone who lives a full, busy life... at the end of the day, I was tired! I would head down to my studio, turn on the lights, put my apron on, and the exhaustion of the day would hit.
After a few attempts I would shake my head, take off my apron, turn off the lights, and head back upstairs.
It was a tough realization — because in my mind I had been making time for my creative practice. But it wasn't prioritized, protected time.
What am I doing about it?
— A self-imposed challenge —
For the next week, I want to make a conscious effort to prioritize my creativity. Doing something hands-on creative early in the day, even if it's just for 5 minutes.
This morning, that looked like me swatching the colored pencils that were laying out on my art table.
Having an accountability buddy is always good, so I wanted to invite you in on this little challenge with me. Let's check-in this time next week, in the next edition of The BB Connection!

Coming up soon! September 28 - October 2, 2026
The Making Zen online retreat is back, and I'm so honored to be a presenting artist again. I'm very excited for the project that I'll be teaching, Stitched Franken Fabrics. It's a super yummy, texture heavy project that I think you are going to love. I turned my finish piece into a zipper pouch!
Making Zen is a FREE textile-arts-focused online retreat. 30 talented artists host one workshop each over the course of five days, September 28 - October 2. Those workshops are totally free for anyone to watch for 24 hours. It is such an incredible opportunity to get inspired, connect with new friends and artists, and improve your craft!
