Creative mojo = zero

September 18, 2026

A direct line from my art table to your inbox—where creativity, connection, and a little chaos collide.

Over the last couple of weeks my thoughts keep returning to the same thing ... giving myself grace when my creativity energy is low. Or, quite frankly, when my energy in general is low.

If you've been with me for a while you know that my mental health is something I struggle with. And I know that my energy levels do not stay constant throughout the year.

This is something that is easy to see that when I zoom out and see things from a large scale perspective, but it's not always easy to remember on a daily basis.

Lately, I've been going through one of those times where my energy is low and my mental health is top of mind.

This is normal, but it doesn't make it easy. Especially when it comes to creativity.

For me, creativity and my art practice are what keeps me going. And when the energy isn't there it can be really difficult.

So, what to do when your creative mojo is low? Here's a list of things I'm doing to help:

  • Lower expectationsthis isn't the time for grand works of art or creative breakthroughs
  • Shorter segmentsa couple of minutes counts
  • Releasing guilt toss out the "shoulds"
  • Limit options too many choices results in no action
  • Art accessibilitybring the art to you, the couch is as good of place as any
  • Communityconnect with others who get it

I cannot emphasize enough how important connection and community are — we aren't meant to go through any of this alone. I'm so thankful for the community inside my signature 14-week program, the BB Art Journals Masterclass, we just had our weekly call yesterday and it was the highlight of my week!  (BBAJM will open again in 2027)

The upcoming Gel Printers Summit hosted by my friend, Drew Steinbrecher, is another great opportunity to connect with fellow artists and to spark your creativity. I can't wait to join this summit as a student, and I thought you might like to attend with me!

There will be 14 lessons released one per day starting on September 28. And we don't have to worry about keeping up, because it comes with lifetime access. We'll be able to explore each lesson at our own pace, which honestly feels perfect right now!

Early bird pricing is available starting NOW through September 27.

Only $77  — Regular price is $97!

PLUS, if you use my code 10OFFGPS-BH you'll get an additional $10 off!

Join the Gel Printer's Summit!

And the other community event that I wanted to share with you is right around the corner, also! The Making Zen online retreat will be taking place from September 28 - October 2. There will be 30 presenting artists, and I'm one of them!

Speaking of slowing down, that is the whole point of the upcoming Making Zen retreat that I'll be teaching at later this month! And it won't just be me. There are 30 presenting artists sharing free workshops over five days, from September 28 - October 2.

It's completely free to sign up for the textile-arts-focused online Making Zen retreat! Each day, new lessons will be released and you'll have 24 hours to watch. There is an option to upgrade your ticket to the VIP experience which unlocks bonus lessons and grants you lifetime access to all of the workshops. The workshops are available to start watching now if you join as a VIP - which means no waiting around!
