Embracing your Artistic comfort zone

Chartreuse Grid Journal Spread

Trying new things is great and it’s important to step out of your comfort zone, it can be equally rewarding to embrace what is comfortable. Especially on those days that you are craving a win in your art practice! That's what led me to create this grid journal spread that I'm absolutely smitten with. I used colors that are guaranteed to make me happy, using a blend of collage elements, water soluble pencils, and a splash of acrylic ink that just brings everything to life.

By nature, I want to have everything figured out before I even get started. The more we stare at the blank page the more intimidating it can be to get started. Instead of having it all figured out, I decided on my color scheme and then began adding layers. Allowing each piece and swipe of paint to evolve organically. I let the supplies guide me not the other way around. I played with textures and tones using my fingers, bits of an old receipt, and even a vintage-inspired tape that added a certain warmth to the piece.

As I worked through the layers, I allowed each collage piece and swipe of paint to evolve organically, guiding me and not the other way around. Decorating those eight blank pages in my grid journal, I played with textures and tones using my fingers, bits of an old receipt, and even a vintage-inspired tape that added a certain warmth to the piece. With each addition, from the chartreuse green to the rich, olivey tones of the antelope brown acrylic ink, the page took on more depth, and I found myself lost in the rhythm of blending, smudging, and layering.
