From Circle Cutouts to Simple Spreads
Play Along Journal Series Week 15 Part 1 & 2
This week was all about embracing simplicity in my Play Along art journal spreads, and let me tell you, it was a refreshing change.
As artists, we often find ourselves caught up in the need to add more and more to our creations. But lately, I've been challenging myself to step back and let the beauty of simplicity shine through. By limiting my color palette, focusing on organic shapes, and incorporating subtle art marks, I discovered that sometimes less truly is more. Simple doesn't have to mean less interesting; it allows our eyes to flow effortlessly across the page, giving them a much-needed resting place.
One technique I explored was using my fingers to apply paint, allowing for complete control and an intuitive approach. I found that this method brought a sense of ease and freedom to my work, resulting in a beautiful, layered effect. Another element I introduced for the teal journal was wooden numbers, adding texture and dimension without overwhelming the overall composition. It's all about finding these little focal points that draw the viewer in and keep them engaged.
I hope this glimpse into my art journaling journey inspires you to embrace simplicity in your own creative endeavors. Being mindful of the flow, learning when to let go, and leaving room for the unexpected can yield surprising and beautiful results. Remember, art is a personal expression, and there are no rules!
