Get Inspired by Elements: Grunge, Botanicals and Simplicity

Play Along Journal Series Week 27

Sometimes less is more in the world of art journaling! I decided to keep things simple and playful. Drawing has always made me a bit uncomfortable, so I found a unique way to overcome that fear and incorporate my artwork into my journal. I created my drawings on a separate piece of paper and then attached them into the journal. I've been able to get over that initial hesitation and embrace my artistic side with confidence.

To give my drawings a grungier and more artistic look, I used a wet damp paintbrush and a water-activated, Stabilo All pencil. I absolutely love the effect it creates, blurring the lines and giving my artwork a beautifully sketched appearance. In my Teal journal, I opted for a simpler approach, using fine line applicator pens and exploring different collage supplies. It's an exercise I've learned to embrace over time, and always reminds me of the impact black and white elements can have when complemented by a slight pop of color.

Fun fact:  Did you know you can use a heat gun to speed up the drying process when working with the fine line applicator?

It saves so much time so you can keep those creative juices flowing!
