Using Watercolor to Create Abstract Backgrounds

Play Along Journal Series Week 11 Part 1

I decided to experiment with watercolor paints directly on the pages. While watercolor can be used on any paper, I found that it absorbs better on watercolor paper, especially in a bound journal like the one I'm using. It minimizes the risk of the colors seeping through to the other pages. Just because your paper isn’t watercolor paper, doesn’t mean you can’t use watercolors on it! As I played around with the paints, I discovered how different papers react differently, which is always so fascinating!

I added stitching to create texture and experimented with opaque black gesso to add boldness to the pages. The fluid correction pen became my favorite go-to for mark making, as it dries quickly allowing you to easily close up the journal with no mess.
